PostNord TPL enhances standards with advanced monitoring systems
PostNord TPL has developed a storage and distribution center specifically tailored for handling pharmaceuticals in Norrköping, Region East. In accordance with the numerous requirements applicable to the life sciences industry, such as GDP (Good Distribution Practice) regulations, the internal environment of the facility is carefully controlled to protect the large number of goods handled daily.
The logistics unit has a custom automation solution and was recently equipped with an advanced network of humidity and temperature loggers delivered and installed by the measurement technology company Vaisala.
The need to update the monitoring system was highlighted by the previous supplier who, in early 2022, pointed out that the existing network had reached the end of its lifespan. Several potential technology suppliers were contacted, including Vaisala, which then demonstrated viewLinc, a wireless system for continuous monitoring.
Prior to phasing out the previous system, PostNord TPL had the opportunity to evaluate the latest technologies and solutions available on the market.
– First and foremost, the new monitoring network needed to meet GDP requirements. To do that, the system had to be accurate and reliable. Additionally, we wanted a wireless and intuitive system that is easy to use, says Tina Fritzson, project manager at PostNord TPL in Region East.
With accurate and verified monitoring data, our GDP compliance is secured
Janne Halonen, Sales Manager at Vaisala, has been involved in the PostNord TPL project from the start.
– It was clear from the first meeting that we could meet PostNord TPL's requirements. viewLinc has greater capacity and can meet their needs, and our validation service also provides all the necessary information to demonstrate GDP compliance. During 2022, we received floor plans from PostNord TPL so that we could start developing a detailed proposal, explains Janne.
This involved the installation and commissioning of 102 loggers monitoring a 30,000 m² warehouse. Most of the sensors monitor temperature and humidity in the large facility, and some are also placed in refrigerated areas that must keep certain pharmaceutical goods between 2 to 8 °C.
Vaisala's viewLinc system has now been in operation since autumn 2022. Reflecting on the experience, Tina Fritzson at PostNord TPL says:
– We have been very satisfied with the Vaisala system. We avoid false alarms, the system is easy to use, reports are generated quickly and easily, and with accurate and verified monitoring data, our GDP compliance is secured.
